Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
-Born July 18, 1918 was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary,
politician, and philanthropy.
- 1962 he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison.
- 1990 he was released after 27 years in prison.
-1994 he won the presidential election.
-1999 he stepped down after one term as president.
- 2013 he died at age of 95
Achievements /failures
Following his release from prison in 1990, his advocacy of a policy of
reconciliation and negotiation helped lead the transition to multi-racial
democracy in South Africa. Mandela received more than 260 awards over 40 years,
most notably the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
