  Attempted Assassination of Ronald Reagan

The attempted assassination of the United States 40th president Ronald Reagan occurred on March 30, 1981, 69 days into his presidency. While living a speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington D.C, president Reagan and three others were shot and wounded by John Hinckley, Jr. His motivation for the attack was to impress actress Joddie Foster, who had developed an obsession over seeing her in the film Taxi Driver.

Reagan was shot in the chest, below the left underarm. He suffered a punctured lung and heavy internal bleeding but, prompt medical attention allowed him to recover quickly.

Reflection Unit 2

            Reflection Team Project

For this project, everybody tried to give the best of himself. First when got my topic in this project I didn’t know a lot about 1980s events but I decided to take it anyways. When I was doing my research, I was surprised that there was an attempt assassination against the 40th president of the U.S. Ronald Reagan, so I decided to work on it. Team project is not easy to do because everybody doesn’t have the same schedule, so it is difficult to meet after class. Most of my classmates’ projects were very good, their organizations and presentations inspired me. Working together was the hardest part of this project. One member of our team was supposed to send us a link via blackboard to collect each part of the project and organize it in the weekend but, he didn’t do it. On Monday too, we could not meet after class because one of our team had another class. As I me too I was not available on Tuesday, they decided to meet without me and make the power point. So I gave them my research. I was surprise that they didn’t meet that day as agreed. That messed up a little bit our organization. Even that, my team did a good job, so my contribution 33%.

Unit 1 reflection

Reflection

In the beginning of this course I did not know anything about culture and diversity. In the past, I have experienced a lot of culture shocks when I came to the US in the first months and I was marked, I felt like I was lost. But when the course started and we got our first worksheet about “introduction to the culture” and, when I read it, I started to understand something. And when we had a discussion in the class the following day about it with my classmates who shared their experiences, I knew I was not alone in that case, so share my too and I was relieved it was fun. I learned too from my classmates, who talked to me about their culture.
My Aha moment was when the teacher drew an iceberg explain how people are ethnocentric and, later become cultural relativism. Because me too I thought my culture is superior and better than others and later I can view, understand and even like other culture on my own terms.
If I will create a bumper sticker, it will be “Everything in one”. Because thanks to course on the culture, I can understand the cultural wealth of the US. The United State is really like a salad bowl.

I didn’t know that think that one’s own culture is superior to another is not good because every culture is good and nobody can judge any culture from his own. Now I know how to deal with any culture.
